Bengaluru: In a major development, the Karnataka High Court has directed the state government to allow prosecution in the ₹7.5 crore scam case involving IAS officer Rohini Sindhuri. The court emphasized that a thorough investigation into corruption allegations is mandatory, regardless of departmental clearances.

The case relates to the 2021 purchase of “eco-friendly bags” in Mysore district. Allegedly, the bags were bought at ₹52 each, while the market price was only ₹13, causing a loss of approximately ₹7.5 crore to the government.

The High Court remarked, “Even if the departmental inquiry gives a clean chit… criminal investigation cannot stop.” It stressed that a complete probe is essential to uncover the truth in corruption cases.

Under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, the court has given the green signal to initiate a full investigation. The government has been firmly instructed to proceed, marking the official start of the criminal inquiry. Rohini Sindhuri is now required to face the investigation.
