Kaleshwaram Barrage Restoration: Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy Reviews Preparations
Hyderabad :Telangana Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy reviewed the proposed restoration works of the Kaleshwaram barrages and said the government is preparing to take up the works at Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla.
According to the minister, the designs for the restoration of all three barrages have been finalised. The government plans to begin the restoration works in November, subject to the completion of the required technical approvals and other formalities.
The minister said the government aims to complete the restoration of the three barrages before the 2027 monsoon season. The designs are scheduled to be placed before a Central Water Commission (CWC) committee on October 5 for further consideration.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said strengthening the foundations of the barrages through grouting would be an important part of the restoration programme. The proposed works are intended to improve the structural stability and safety of the barrages.
He further stated that tenders would be invited after obtaining the necessary technical approvals. The government is expected to proceed with the restoration programme based on the recommendations and technical requirements finalised by the competent authorities.
The minister stressed that safety and quality would remain key priorities during the restoration works. He said there would be no compromise on safety standards or the quality of construction.
The Kaleshwaram project has been under scrutiny following structural concerns involving its barrages. The proposed restoration programme is therefore being closely watched, particularly with regard to technical assessments, design approvals, execution timelines and safety measures.
The government’s stated objective is to complete the restoration works before the 2027 monsoon so that the barrages can be prepared for the next rainy season.
