Eshwarappa Criticizes Congress Over Women’s Reservation Bill

Shivamogga : Former Deputy Chief Minister K. S. Eshwarappa has criticized the Congress party over its stance on the Women’s Reservation Bill, alleging that the party has consistently opposed women’s reservation.
Addressing a press conference, Eshwarappa said that despite being in power for several decades, Congress failed to implement women’s reservation. He further alleged that even now, the party has not supported the Women’s Reservation initiative brought forward by the central government.
Referring to the Nari Shakti Vandana Bill, he stated that the legislation is crucial for women’s empowerment and accused Congress and its allies of attempting to block it. He also recalled that similar efforts were made during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, but the bill did not fully materialize.Eshwarappa also addressed concerns raised by Congress regarding the linkage between delimitation and women’s reservation. He argued that the move is intended to strengthen democratic representation and dismissed claims that southern states would be adversely affected.
On the issue of religion-based reservations, he stated that the Constitution does not permit reservations based on religion and accused Congress of raising such demands for political reasons.
Additionally, Eshwarappa condemned remarks made by certain political leaders against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, stating that such statements are unacceptable. He also expressed readiness for a public debate on these issues.
Overall, the debate surrounding the Women’s Reservation Bill and related political issues continues to intensify across the country, with leaders from different parties expressing contrasting views.
